Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 10, 2025

This is our Privacy Policy. It's not a novel. We'll get straight to the point and tell you what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. No fluff, no corporate speak.

The Short Version

We collect the bare minimum amount of information needed to make TinyCats work, prevent abuse, and understand how people are using the service. We don't want your name, your email, or your life story. We just want to explain complex shit with tiny cats.

What We Collect (and Why)

Here's a simple breakdown of the data we handle:

Data We Collect Why We Collect It
Your Question To generate the explanation you asked for. This is the whole point of the service.
Generated Content We save the explanation and the cat pictures so you can share them with a permanent link.
Hashed IP Address To stop people from spamming the service (rate limiting). We hash your IP address, meaning we don't store the original.
Analytics Data To see how many people are using the site and which features are popular. This helps us make TinyCats better.

We use a few third-party services that also handle some of this data. We chose them because they're good at what they do and take privacy seriously.

  • Vercel: Hosts our website and analytics. They see your IP address and usage data.
  • PostHog: Helps us with product analytics to understand what's working. They see your usage patterns.
  • Neon: Our database provider. They store the explanations you generate.
  • Google Gemini: The AI that powers our explanations. Your questions are sent to them to generate the content.

We don't use cookies for advertising or tracking you across the internet. We only use what's necessary to run the site.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the service: Generate and display your cat-filled explanations.
  • Prevent abuse: Stop bots and spammers from ruining the fun.
  • Improve the product: Figure out what features people like and where we can do better.
  • Look smart: We use aggregated, anonymous data to understand trends.

We will never sell your data. That's not our business model.

Your Rights (The Legal Bit)

Depending on where you live (looking at you, Europe and California), you have certain rights over your data. Here's the rundown:

  • Right to Access: You can ask us for a copy of the information we have about you. (It's not much, but you can ask.)
  • Right to Deletion: You can ask us to delete your generated content. If you have the link to an explanation you want removed, send it to us.
  • Right to Object: You can object to us processing your data, but that basically means you can't use the service.

To exercise any of these rights, shoot us an email. See the contact section below.

Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. We hash IP addresses, use secure connections (HTTPS), and work with reputable third-party services. However, no service is 100% secure. The internet is a wild place.

Changes to This Policy

We might update this policy from time to time. If we do, we'll change the "Last Updated" date at the top. If the changes are major, we'll make it obvious. Or we won't. You should probably check back here if you care.
